Bobcat, our shop cat and official product tester, rounded up his favorite sticker making supplies, from printable sticker paper and laminate sheets to the cutting machine and tools we reach for in our studio. Whether you're making stickers for your tumblers, planners, water bottles, or starting a small sticker business, these are the basics you need to get started.
What You Need to Make Stickers at Home
Making stickers is easier than you might think. Here's the short list:
- A printer (check your sticker paper's package to make sure it works with your printer type)
- Printable sticker paper
- Laminate sheets to make stickers last longer
- A cutting machine (or scissors for simple shapes)
- A few basic vinyl tools
- Your designs (our digital files are ready to print!)
Bobcat's Favorite Sticker Making Supplies
1. Teckwrap Matte White Printable Sticker Paper
This is my favorite go-to paper when creating stickers for my business! It's where every sticker starts. Matte white sticker paper gives your designs a soft, non-glare finish and bright colors, and the A4 size gives you plenty of room to fit a full sheet of designs. It's a great pick for planner stickers, labels, and tumbler stickers.
Bobcat's tip: Print a test page on regular paper first to check your sizing before using your sticker sheets.

2. Teckwrap Glossy Laminate Sheets (56 Sheets)
Laminate is the secret to stickers that hold up. These clear, glossy, non-printable sheets go over your printed sticker paper to add shine and help protect your designs from scratches, smudges, and water. A must if your stickers are going on tumblers or water bottles.
Bobcat's tip: Apply laminate slowly from one edge with a scraper to push out air bubbles.

3. Teckwrap Vinyl Craft Tool Kit
This little kit makes everything easier: a weeding pen for picking out tiny pieces, a scraper for smoothing laminate and vinyl, and a cutter for trimming your sheets. Great for sticker making and vinyl decals.

4. Silhouette Cameo Pro
If you're ready to cut lots of stickers (or start selling them), a cutting machine is a game changer. The Silhouette Cameo Pro is a wide-format cutter that handles print-and-cut stickers, vinyl, and more, so you can cut perfect die-cut shapes around your designs instead of trimming by hand.

How to Make Stickers at Home: Step by Step
- Pick your design. Create your own or grab one of our ready-to-print digital decal sheets.
- Print it on matte white sticker paper using your printer's best quality setting.
- Let the ink dry completely before touching the sheet.
- Laminate it with a glossy laminate sheet, smoothing from one side to the other with a scraper.
- Cut it out with your cutting machine's print-and-cut feature or with scissors.
- Peel and stick! Apply to a clean, dry surface. Check out our sticker directions for more application tips.
Bonus: How to Make a Printable Vinyl Tumbler Wrap
Want to cover your whole tumbler instead of adding a sticker? Printable vinyl lets you print a full sheet design and wrap it all the way around for a seamless, bright, full-coverage look. It's beginner-friendly and works great on 20oz skinny tumblers.

- Print your design. Print your full sheet design on white matte printable vinyl using your printer's highest quality setting. Our tumbler wrap designs and digital files are a great place to start.
- Trim the design. Cut the sheet to fit your tumbler. A standard 8.5" x 11" sheet works for most 20oz skinny tumblers. Leave about 1/8" to 1/4" extra at the top and bottom for a clean, seamless finish.
- Wrap and line up. Peel off the backing, line up one edge on the tumbler, and slowly wrap the vinyl around, pressing lightly as you go.
- Smooth and secure. Use a squeegee or soft cloth to smooth the vinyl from the center outward to push out air bubbles. If you get a bubble, gently lift and smooth it again.
- Trim the excess. Rotate the tumbler and use a sharp craft knife to trim the extra vinyl at the top and bottom.
- Seal your wrap. Seal with your favorite tumbler epoxy or sealant, following the manufacturer's directions, and let it cure fully for a long-lasting finish.
Bobcat's tip: Make sure your printed ink is completely dry before wrapping and sealing, and work slowly. Patience is the secret to a bubble-free wrap! 🐾
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper do I need to make stickers?
You need printable sticker paper (also called sticker sheets). Matte white sticker paper is a great all-purpose choice. Always check that the paper matches your printer type.
How do I make my stickers waterproof?
Adding a laminate sheet over your printed stickers helps protect them from water and scratches. For tumblers, we also recommend hand washing only.
Do I need a Cricut or Silhouette to make stickers?
No! You can cut simple stickers with scissors. A cutting machine like the Silhouette Cameo Pro just makes it faster and gives you clean die-cut shapes, which is helpful if you make a lot of stickers.
Can I put stickers on tumblers?
Yes. Laminated stickers work well on tumblers. For a more permanent, dishwasher-friendly look, many crafters use waterslide decals or vinyl instead.
Can I use printable vinyl on tumblers?
Yes! Printable vinyl is a great way to make a full-coverage tumbler wrap. Print, wrap, smooth out the bubbles, trim, and seal it with epoxy or tumbler sealant for durability.
